RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research focuses on the intersection of geography and the fire service. My previous work has investigated how firefighters form, access and utilize robust cognitive maps to safely respond to all the unique addresses they are called to. In my doctoral work, I expanded this research to formulate a better understanding of how fire departments around the country carry out these tasks. In addition, my research has explored firefighter spatial abilities, and firefighter navigational decision making.

I am also interested in human geography broadly, including the cultural landscape, historical geography, cultural geography, geographic education and urban geography. My curiosity also extends to emergency management, disaster preparedness and fire service training practices.

Beyond the academy, I'm interested in leadership and professional development. If you're in a leadership position of any kind, how are you using your voice to help those around you?
